The History of Independence Day

Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July in the United States, has been a federal holiday since 1941.  In June of 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the American Revolution weighed a resolution that would declare independence from Great Britain. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Ferguson Case Orr Paterson will be closed Monday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day.  We wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July!
